Type of Testing

WIATT-II

The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Second Edition is an individual performance test is given to all new students prior to enrollment. Three areas are tested: Reading, Math & Written Language. MCCS has an expectation of at least 50 Percentile (grade level) so that the student can be successful when enrolled at MCCS.

CogAT

This test measures the development of verbal, mathematical, and spatial reasoning abilities that are essential for success in school. Students with different patterns of score on the CogAT have different learning styles. By knowing these learning preferences, teachers can help students achieve greater success in school. Students with high scores are also evaluated for gifted programs.

The test includes sections on vocabulary, word analysis, reading, listening, language, math, social studies and science for students in grades 1-2, and vocabulary, reading, spelling, grammar, word usage, math, social studies, science, maps, reference and word recognition for students in grades 3-8.

These scores are acquired from the System Summary document for the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). They indicate the Percentile Rank of Average SS: National School Norms. These scores are noteworthy considering they include all of our students and their ability levels and are normed with all schools in the United States who have taken the ITBS during the spring semester up to this point.

NAEP

The National Test of Educational Progress is given every year to selected public and private schools. This year MCCS was selected as a private school. Our fourth grade class will take this test (on tablets) in February (date selected by the NAEP). This is a short test and each student will take only one pre-determined test in either Reading or Math.
